The Year of the Sauvage King
With the foreign wars ended, ancient spiritual forces long held at bay did rapidly fester in the wilderness known as the Forest Sauvage. Sir Cerdic, Ser Cwenhild, and Dame Tamura did bind their fates to unravel this encroaching mystery.
- The Fiend of Sauvage: They were first summoned by Saint Dubricus and Lady Nimue, Chief Lady of the Lake, who warned that a dark Fiend of Sauvage had violated the Ban and taken root in the woods.
- The Whispering Knights: Seeking wisdom, they parleyed with the druid Hermien at the ancient stone circle and learned the secret bird-tunes needed to reason with the local spirits.
- Horror at Alchester: Moving inward, they braved the ruined town of Alchester, putting down slavering, enchanted boars that turned back into bewildered humans when slain.
- The Count of Tribruit: They did penetrate the dense, blood-red fog to encounter the youthful Count Meilyr, discovering that he and his entire garrison had unknowingly become completely ensorcelled vassals of the fairy king.
- A Game of Chance: The trio was nearly undone at Rainsborough, falling into a cursed trap of knucklebones where whole days melted away like minutes in agonizing hunger.
- The Castle of the Race: At Buckingham, the companions did endure a great delay under the stern laws of the castellan. For many days of grueling and exhausting attempts, the riders did test their horsemanship until at long last Ser Cwenhild did ride a perfect, victorious race against the enchanted lord. Upon her grand triumph, the magnificent white fairy horse did throw its master, spoke aloud in a melodious tongue, and swore absolute fealty to their fellowship for a year and a day.
- The City of Lies: They did ride into the opulent market of Towchester, where they successfully pierced the glamours of a deceptive spriggan bodyguard who sought to lead them astray. It was on the road after Towchester that the fairy horse revealed it was a son of King Madog in disguise, and bade the knights defeat the fiend responsible for his father's descent into wickedness.
- Sir Gorboduc the Fiend: At long last, having tracked the true wickedness to Medbourne, they did utterly crush the brigand henchmen who held the peasants in terror.
Now, the final, fateful hour is at hand: the gates of the stone redoubt swing open, and the demon-born Sir Gorboduc the Fiend rides out into the daylight with his fearsome lieutenants to do mortal battle against the player knights...
